Is the Vipre antivirus system any good/ worthwhile?

Chosen Answer:

I recommend Avast free anti-virus.

I have been using it just over 2 years, it is very user friendly and has lots of features that most ‘paid-for’ anti-virus programs have.

Whilst Vipre anti-virus does protect, it does cost and doesn’t stand up to Avast, Avira or AVG, just to name a few free anti-virus programs.

Avast does have a paid version that offers a built in firewall, though you didn’t mention your Operating System, hence you may not really need the software firewall. The windows firewall works well with these free anti-virus programs.

Hope that helps.

Edit:The thumb was for the alleged allegation. :p

I have seen good reviews for it, despite the fact I never used in myself.. I USE to use the Firewall (Sunbelt Firewall) by the same developer and it use to be good, but fails in relation to Comodo and Outpost, which are my current favorites (I KNOW I KNOW, you asked about the AV.. not the firewall) … just making a point there may be better options out there

Eset, Avast and AVira (Eset being the only one of those three that is not 100% free) have all been rated and REPEATEDLY (Eset since about the early “2000′s” ) rate pretty high. I hate to knock a product I have never tried, but if Vipre is not free. I would rather go with Avast or Avira or Eset’s Nod32 …. Vipre MAY be a good program though
